What Would You Give Up For A Belly Ring?

Getting your navel pierced not only hurts some when it is done, there may be some things you have to forgo during the healing process. Make sure you consider the full cost of getting to wear a belly ring.

No doubt about it belly rings are attractive but are they worth it? Many people must think so because everyone from stars like Amanda Bynes, Beyonce and Britney Spears to average teen-agers, college kids and even moms are getting their navel pierced.

Of course, there is the initial cost (and possible pain) of a navel piercing. Then there is the effort required to take care of it. This area of your body is more sensitive than most places piercings are done so you have to follow directions closely to keep the area clean and free of infection. Beyond this you may find it requires giving up a few activities you enjoy while it heals.

In order to keep it clean, you may have to be careful about using perfume, scented moisturizers and other fragranced products on the area. This is especially true if you are sensitive to fragrances of any kind or prone to allergic reactions.

If you like to swim, you may have to stay out of the pool, hot tub, spa or other public water spaces for at least the initial months of healing. Exposing your belly button to these places can be risky even if you are sure they are being kept very clean.

There may be some sports activities you need to avoid. Most people don't use hula hoops for sports but it is a good example of what to avoid. You don't want a hoop going across the area. You need to ask yourself if there are any other fitness routines or sports that you do regularly which could disturb your mid-section. Or even if your shirt will be rubbing the area as you perform sports or activities, you might need to forgo those at least in the beginning of the healing process.

It is a great idea to ask other people you know about their experience with piercing and wearing belly rings so you can decide if it is for you or not.
